Who we are

Laboratorios Viñas is a family-owned pharmaceutical company founded in Barcelona in 1911.

Specialising in the area of healthcare, it has continued the innovative, forward-looking vision of its founder, the pharmacist Pedro Viñas, by promoting research for new and original formulations. Through research, Laboratorios Viñas achieves the scientific and social objectives to which it has always been committed and meets today's increasingly demanding requirements for quality, safety and efficacy.

At Laboratorios Viñas, we research, develop, produce, and market drugs and pharmaceutical products across a wide range of therapeutic areas, especially dermatology, ophthalmology, pediatrics, and general medicine, among others.

Our history

The origin of Laboratorios Viñas dates back to September 18, 1911, with the opening of Farmacia Internacional on the Ramblas of Barcelona. Its founder, the pharmacist Pedro Viñas (1878-1948), promoted an innovative concept: a modern pharmacy with a laboratory where he formulated his own drugs and selected specific foreign ones. This pioneering space marked the beginning of a journey that, more than a century later, remains true to the values that inspired it.

Our founder was born in the town of Moià (Barcelona) into a humble family and grew up influenced by the discipline and international success of his older brother, Francisco Viñas (1863-1933), a celebrated Wagnerian tenor who made his debut at the Gran Teatro del Liceu in 1888 and triumphed on stages such as La Scala, Covent Garden, and the Metropolitan.

Farmacia Internacional: the beginning of Laboratorios Viñas.

On September 18, 1911, Pedro Viñas opened Farmacia Internacional on the Ramblas of Barcelona. This pioneering, modern, and scientific space became the seed of Laboratorios Viñas and marks the beginning of the company's history.

Launch of Radio Salil

One of the first original formulas developed by Pedro Viñas at the Farmacia Internacional is the anti-inflammatory drug Radio Salil. A product that is still being sold today and is the longest-running product on the company's market.

International Exhibition

Laboratorios Viñas presents its products at the Palace of Chemical Industries at the Montjuïc fairgrounds as part of the International Exhibition taking place in Barcelona.

Laboratorios Viñas: private corporation

On August 13, 1932, Laboratorios Viñas was incorporated as a private company with its registered office at 24 Quevedo Street, Barcelona.

Death of the founder

On November 1, 1948, Pedro Viñas Dordal passed away in Barcelona due to septicemia and was buried alongside his brother, Francisco Viñas, in the mausoleum that he had built years earlier by the sculptor Mariano Benlliure (1862-1947), which is located in the Montjuïc Cemetery. His legacy continued with the entry of the second generation into the family business.

Transfer to Torrent d’en Vidalet.

On February 3, 1951, the Barcelona Industry Delegation authorized the relocation of Laboratorios Viñas, S.A. to the building at Torrent d’en Vidalet 29, in the heart of the Gracia neighborhood in Barcelona.

Creation of the Laboratorios Viñas Research Department.

With the aim and the need to develop own products, the Research Department of Laboratorios Viñas was created in 1971. In its early years, it focused on Chemical Research, but years later, it expanded to the areas of Pharmacology, Clinical Research, and Pharmaceutics.

New company headquarters at Calle Provença in Barcelona.

Due to space requirements, the Administration and Commercial Services are moving to new offices at Calle Provença, 386.

Entry of the third generation into the family business.

With the incorporation of third-generation members, the legacy of Pedro Viñas continues, focusing on the research and development of proprietary formulas and original products.

Creation of the Pharma Unit (OTC and Dermocosmetics).

This unit was created with the aim of supporting pharmacies by offering 'pharmaceutical advice' products such as Oralsone, a medication for the treatment of mouth ulcers, Radio Salil anti-inflammatory cream, and Saltratos, a product line for foot care. Its catalog also includes proprietary dermocosmetic brands such as Belcils and Liposomial.

Creation of the Dermatology Unit.

Many of the first drugs developed by the founding pharmacist, Pedro Viñas, were already dermatological compounded formulas, but it wasn't until 1989 that the Dermatology Unit was created, with the aim of offering dermatologists solutions for the treatment of various skin conditions.

Economic crisis.

With the loss in its vademecum of the company's main revenue-generating product, Nevrotal, Laboratorios Viñas prioritizes human and social aspects instead of downsizing the staff.

Laboratorios Viñas Facilities in Rubí.

After the necessary expansions and adjustments, the facilities of Laboratorios Viñas in Can Rosés (Rubí) begin to operate at full capacity.

Entry of the fourth generation into the family business.

The path to internationalization begins while maintaining the continuity of values to keep moving forward, faithful to the legacy set by Pedro Viñas.

A Century of Laboratorios Viñas.

On September 18, 2011, Laboratorios Viñas celebrated 100 years of history since the inauguration of Farmacia Internacional.

Inauguration of the new offices at Calle Provenza.

The corporate offices at Calle Provenza are renovated and modernized.

Expansion of the Rubí Industrial Complex.

A new plant for the production of drugs is being added, thus expanding the Rubí industrial complex with the aim to increase productivity and improve efficiency.

New R&D facilities.

A new Galenic Research Center, more versatile and advanced, is inaugurated in the Bastida Industrial Park in Rubí.
