Research, Development and Innovation Department
At the Research Department of Laboratorios Viñas, we research and develop medicines, medical devices, cosmetics, and food supplements with the aim of improving people’s health and wellbeing.
All products developed and marketed by Laboratorios Viñas are the result of the work carried out by our Research Team in our own laboratories, with occasional collaborations from various universities and public research organizations, both national and international.
At Laboratorios Viñas, the development of the products we market always places the consumer/patient at the center.

Profarma Plan
Laboratorios Viñas has been part of Spain’s Research Promotion Plan —currently the Profarma Plan, promoted by the Ministries of Industry, Health, and Science and Innovation— since its inception. This program recognizes and values the investment efforts of pharmaceutical companies in research, development, and innovation, as well as their contribution to the country’s scientific and productive fabric.
Our uninterrupted participation reflects a long-standing commitment to R&D&I and to continuously improving the competitiveness of the Spanish pharmaceutical industry.
The products marketed by Laboratorios Viñas are developed through the coordinated participation of three departments:
In the Pharmaceutical Formulation Research area, we focus on developing the most suitable topical and oral formulations so that active ingredients achieve maximum efficacy and safety in use. This area includes the selection of pharmaceutical forms and, consequently, the appropriate excipients, the establishment of physicochemical and organoleptic characteristics, and stability studies.
Our galenic research work has enabled continuous innovation in various original medicines and dermatological products. Our research lines have focused on pharmaceutical forms such as capsules, suspensions, gels, emulsions, solutions, impregnated supports, and aerosols. The formulation of dissolvable oral sticks for pediatric use for the treatment of canker sores, stands out as an original and patented development by Laboratorios Viñas.
In the Pharmacological Research area, we focus on establishing a scientific basis to support the efficacy and safety of all our products.
Our pharmacological research has generated several scientific publications in international journals and led to the inclusion of the monograph of the original active ingredient, zinc acexamate, in the European Pharmacopoeia.
In the Clinical Research area, we focus on conducting clinical trials and studies in humans to demonstrate the efficacy and safety of our products before they are launched on the market.
Clinical trials carried out by Laboratorios Viñas have generated original scientific articles published in national and international journals.
Pioneers in dermatological solutions
At Laboratorios Viñas, we have always had a strong dermatological vocation and are a benchmark in the research, development, and commercialization of skin care products.
The galenic excellence, acceptability, originality, efficacy, and safety of the topical formulations developed by our Research Department have led Laboratorios Viñas to lead the national market with various product lines and to address a wide range of skin care needs.
From the treatment of acne, rosacea, alopecia, dry skin, or skin infections, to hyperkeratosis, hyperpigmentation, hyperhidrosis, and wound healing.
Our most outstanding achievements:

First medicine based on hydrocortisone hemisuccinate for the topical treatment of mouth ulcers.

Development and launch of idoxuridine, the first topical antiviral for the treatment of herpes simplex and herpes zoster.

Launch in Spain of the first 2% topical erythromycin solution (antibiotic indicated for acne treatment).

First formula based on trace elements, amino acids, and vitamins for hair health.

First aluminum chloride 20% solution in wipes for hyperhidrosis.

New R&D facilities
In 2023, we inaugurated a new Research Center in the La Bastida industrial estate, in Rubí. The move from the previous Can Rosés facilities has allowed us to triple the department’s surface area—to 1,200 m²—and equip it with a more modern and better-equipped laboratory, designed to drive continuous innovation as a growth engine.
With this addition, Laboratorios Viñas now totals nearly 28,000 m² of industrial space dedicated to research, development, manufacturing, and packaging of its products.
Industrial area
The facilities of Laboratorios Viñas are located in Barcelona and Rubí, in a privileged location close to the Technological Park of Vallés, only 25 kilometres from the city of Barcelona. These facilities encompass the activities of industrial management, quality control and assurance, engineering, logistics and manufacture. The team is made up of staff highly qualified in each one of these areas.
The total size of the industrial complex is 28,000 m2, dedicated to the area for the manufacturing, pharmaceutical products development and the warehouses. The manufacturing plant specialises in the manufacture of dermatological products, medical devices and food supplements. Both the manufacturing processes and the facilities comply with Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines and are authorised by the Health Administration.
